Beeswax Candle Safety & Use Guide

Last updated: September 21, 2025

Core Warning

WARNING: Burn within sight. Keep away from things that can catch fire. Keep away from children & pets.

Quick-Use Summary

· Place on a flat, level, heat‑resistant surface with at least 12 in (30 cm) clearance from combustibles.

· Trim wick to ¼″ (6 mm) before lighting; remove wick trimmings and debris from the wax.

· Never leave unattended. Extinguish before leaving the room or sleeping.

· Keep away from drafts, vents, fans, curtains, and traffic paths (kids, pets).

· Space multiple candles at least 3 in (7.5 cm) apart; limit each burn session to ≤ 4 hours.

· Do not use water to extinguish. Use a snuffer or gentle blow; allow to cool before moving

Form-Specific Tips

Tealights & Votives

· Always use an appropriate holder rated for candle use; surfaces can get hot.

Pillars

· If tunneling or sooting occurs, re-level the surface, reduce drafts, and keep wick at ¼″ (6 mm).

Tapers

· Use stable, heat‑safe holders. Keep away from drafts that cause uneven burning or soot.

Handmade & Natural Beeswax Notes

· Natural variation: Colour, finish, and a light honey‑like aroma can vary by season and hive—this is normal for pure beeswax.

· Beeswax bloom: A soft white “bloom” may appear over time; it’s harmless and buffs off with a soft cloth.

· Burn time is approximate: Holder type, wick length, room temperature, and drafts affect results.

· Storage: Keep cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight; high heat can soften or warp beeswax.

Before You Light

· Set on a stable, heat‑resistant surface (ceramic, metal, stone).

· Keep 12 in (30 cm) from anything that can catch fire; ensure ventilation.

· Trim wick to ¼″ (6 mm) and clear debris.

While Burning

· Attend the flame at all times; extinguish if leaving or sleeping.

· Keep away from children and pets; never where candles can be knocked over.

· If the flame flickers or soots, reduce drafts and re‑trim the wick to ¼″ (6 mm).

After Use

· Limit each burn to ≤ 4 hours; discontinue use when ~½″ (12 mm) of wax remains or when the flame nears the cup/holder.

· Extinguish with a snuffer or gentle blow—never water; allow to cool fully before handling.

· Dispose of cooled, spent cups/holders according to local guidelines.

Product & Compliance Notes

· We follow ASTM F2058 labeling guidance and general candle safety criteria referenced by labs (e.g., ASTM F2417).
